FanDuel has revealed it will launch in Ontario in April after coming a move into the market with a top class sportsbook.

In a move that had little surprise, FanDuel were merely confirming the expected having already been granted a license by Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario as one of the number of approved sportsbooks.

FanDuel will be joined by the likes of 888 Sport, Unibet, Caesars, PointsBet, BetMGM, Bet Rivers, theScoreBet and Rivalry in opening their doors to Ontario residents.

“We’re so thrilled to open our Canadian office and bring FanDuel’s world-class sportsbook and casino to Canada’s passionate sports fans,” FanDuel Group CEO Amy Howe said.

“This is a huge moment for the industry and we look forward to providing Canadians with entertaining and responsible sports experiences.”

The bad news for FanDuel lovers who enjoy Daily Fantasy Sports contests is the revelation that they will not be available in Ontario.

Due to the regulations stating that Ontario players can only play in contests that do not have shared liquidity with residents or other states or jurisdictions.

“Unfortunately, games offered in the regulated market currently cannot include shared liquidity with other jurisdictions – meaning Ontario players would only be able to play against other Ontario players,” FanDuel representatives are quoted as saying.

“Contests would need to be smaller, with significantly smaller prizing. FanDuel knows such a product would not be attractive to our Ontario players.”
